“Initial inquiries suggest there are no suspicious circumstances.”

The woman was an employee of a third-party cleaning firm which was providing specialist cleaning services at the Jesmond store.

A Woolworths spokesman said the supermarket giant is “deeply saddened by the tragic incident”.

“Our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones at this difficult time,” the spokesman said.

“We are assisting SafeWork NSW and NSW Police as well as working with our contract cleaning partner.”

The supermarket said its priority is providing support to the woman’s family.

The Jesmond store will remain closed.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
