Two critical after Toowoomba crash

Two people are fighting for life after a car crashed into a tree and split in two on a residential Queensland street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Queensland Police said a male driver, 20, and a female passenger, 18,were taken to Toowoomba Hospital in critical conditions after the incident, which local media has reported split the car in half.

Police said just after midnight a Ford Fairmont was travelling north on Mackenzie St in East Toowoomba when it struck the tree.

A third person, also an 18-year-old female passenger, is in a stable condition in Toowoomba Hospital.

The man has been taken to Redcliffe Hospital via air.

Police said the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating, and also urged anyone who saw the blue Ford Fairmont prior to the crash to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage is also urged to contact police.
