A man has drowned after becoming distressed in the water near one of Australia’s most iconic coastal towns.
At about 4.15pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to Boulders Beach on the coastline between Lennox Head and Skennars Head, about 20km south of Byron Bay, after reports of two swimmers in distress.

The two men, 34 and 57, were pulled from the water by members of the public, with officers from the Richmond Police District performing CPR on the 57-year-old.
He died at the scene.
The 34-year-old did not sustain any injuries.
NSW Police said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is under way, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
