A man’s body has been pulled from Melbourne’s Yarra River, believed to be the missing swimmer who disappeared over the weekend.

Frank Mellia, 39, was with friends at Tarooma Reserve, Warrandyte in northwest Melbourne on Saturday when he walked down a path by himself towards the river about 3pm.

When they failed to locate him, the group reported him missing to police.

A search operation was then launched in the surrounding Warrandyte state forest.

On Monday, Victoria Police confirmed a body had been found in the river.

“Sadly the body of a man has been found as part of our search of the Yarra River in Warrandyte,” they said.

“The unidentified body is believed to be that of the man who went missing on Saturday.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
