Man parks on trolley bay after work party

A Melbourne driver on his way home in the morning following a work Christmas party has allegedly blown more than four times the legal alcohol limit after mounting his car on a trolley bay.

The 39-year-old man told Victoria Police he mistook a trolley bay for a parking space in South Morang early on Tuesday morning.

Mill Park police were called after reports of a crash at the McDonalds Rd shopping centre car park at about 6.20am.

Officers were stunned to find the car wedged between a tree and trolley bay.

The man underwent a breath test, for which he allegedly returned a reading of .202.

The Mulgrave man told officers he was returning home from his work Christmas party. His licence was immediately suspended for 12 months.

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving.

Police are currently targeting impaired driving, speed, distraction and fatigue in high-risk areas across the Christmas period.
