Teachers in one state are being offered thousands of dollars in bonuses, as well as accommodation costs, as an incentive to move to a more remote area.
Toomelah Public School is located on the border between New South Wales and Queensland, and is offering up to $30,000 in incentives for anyone willing to relocate for a job in the school.
The school has a “100 per cent Indigenous” cohort and has been described as a wonderful place to work by principal Gregory Bass.
But the remote location is making it hard to attract teachers, with Mr Bass turning to social media to attract new staff.
“We are DESPERATE for teachers!” the principal posted on his personal Facebook page.
“The teacher shortage is rife all around the country but if there’s anyone in more need than quality and motivated educators, its these kids.”
In a video, Mr Bass appealed to anyone looking for work, asking them to consider a move to a “once in a lifetime” role.
“We are after the best, that includes being an easy going and flexible teacher willing to learn regardless of experience.
“If you are looking for a fun, unique and exciting challenge as well as a once in a lifetime opportunity, please give us a call.”

A spokesperson from the NSW Education Department told NCA NewsWire that getting qualified teachers into rural and remote schools is a priority.
“That’s why we have the most comprehensive rural and remote incentives scheme in the country, including Priority Recruitment Support and Rural and Remote Incentives,” the spokesperson said.
“Under the Rural Teacher Incentive payments, teachers can receive up to $40,000 on top of their base salary annually, and an additional $20,000 if the position is eligible for a recruitment bonus.”
They said Toomelah Public School currently has a permanent role available, with a $20,000 recruitment bonus.
“Toomelah PS currently has one permanent vacancy subject to recruitment, and it carries a $20,000 recruitment bonus.”
Teachers at the school are also eligible for $30,000 per annum in incentives, which can include rental subsidy.
“There are also a range of professional benefits, including additional personal and professional development leave days and priority transfer status.”
