Group tortured and killed roo: cops

A group of men have allegedly tortured and killed a kangaroo near a well-known motor racing track in central NSW.

Police have opened an investigation after receiving reports a kangaroo had been tortured and killed at McPhillamy Park, near the Mount Panorama motor racing track in Bathurst.

Police made the grim discovery on Tuesday.

Police believe the alleged torture took place over the weekend and involved a group of men.

Detectives have released images of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He is of caucasian appearance, medium build and was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans in images shared by police.

Detectives are also hoping to speak to a second man not depicted in the images.

He is described as being of caucasian appearance and was wearing red glasses and white and black striped slide-on sandals.
