A man has been shot dead after allegedly lunging at police with a knife during a domestic violence call-out.

Police were responding to reports of a stabbing at a home in Grange, Brisbane about 2.15pm on Sunday, when the 29-year-old allegedly lunged at officers with a knife.

Footage captured moment his mother arrived at the home and discovered her son was dead.

“They shot him. They shot my son,” she was heard screaming, 9 News reported.

The incident unfolded after police arrived at the Days Road home where they found at 53-year-old man suffering a laceration on his hand and an injury to his left shoulder.

The 29-year-old man had been armed with a knife when police arrived.

Police will allege he moved towards officers while holding the knife before an officer fired three shots.

First aid and CPR were immediately provided but he was declared dead at the scene.

The 53-year-old man was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

It is understood the two men were known to one another.

A crime scene was declared at the address and police investigations are continuing.

This matter is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner.

The findings will be subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
