Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has sidestepped questions about why he hasn’t campaigned for the NSW Liberals ahead of the upcoming state election, but he has made a startling confession.
Speaking to Erin Molan on Sky News on Friday, Mr Dutton revealed he did not watch the Liberal Party campaign launch, which he notably did not attend.
He made the confession after Ms Molan joked she was the “only person in Australia” to watch the launch.
“How did you stay awake?” Mr Dutton joked.

“I can tell you, on a Saturday or Sunday, I prefer to be with my kids at home.”
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet is seeking re-election in NSW on March 25.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it was “remarkable” the federal Liberal leader had not joined Mr Perrottet on the campaign trail.
“What we’ve seen though, is that Peter Dutton wasn’t even at the campaign launch for Dominic Perrottet, and hasn’t been seen with Perrottet since last October,” he said.
“The truth is that the Liberal Party are a dysfunctional party.
“They’re riven by division. They’re not fighting for the people of NSW because they’re too busy fighting each other.

The Opposition Leader said he did not attend the launch because he was a federal politician and was focused on the upcoming by-election in the Victorian seat of Aston.
“I’ve been asked by the NSW division to come down and campaign and I haven’t,” he said.
“I was doorknocking with Roshena Campbell in Aston because I want to win that by-election and at the federal campaign launch I won’t be inviting Dominic Perrottet and other state leaders because it’s a federal campaign.”
Mr Dutton said his “priority” was that federal campaign.
“I‘ve got no interest in being down [in NSW]. I want to be in Victoria,” he said.
