Couple roasts ‘bogan’ Perth day spa

A Perth couple have been left severely disappointed after forking out hundreds of dollars on day spa experience only for it to have a less than luxurious ending.

What was meant to be a romantic couple’s treatment turned into what TikTok user Beth described as a “bogan luxury” after she and her partner were escorted to their own “private balcony” to relax after their massages.

Beth and her partner both paid $330 for a couple’s spa package at Vanilla Face & Body Spa in Rendezvous Hotel, located in the coastal suburb of Scarborough.

After having what Beth described as “really nice massages”, she said she and her partner decided to pay $55 extra to enjoy a “private couple’s balcony” for an hour.

The spa’s website touts the add-on as a “decadent private couples balcony” that includes “complementary refreshments, chocolates and a bottle of sparkling”.

But once Beth and her partner were led to the location, they quickly realised that the “balcony” was located inside the hotel above the lobby, not outside with a view of the ocean as one might think.

She described the area as a “gazebo”, with the video showing sheer curtains erected around the canopy and an outdoor lounge setting placed on what appeared to be astro turf.

“Here’s a bottle of wine that was $12 on Dan Murphy’s website, I checked. There is a cork from the previous people that died on this balcony,” the Perth woman joked.

She then panned the camera to show the top of the gazebo, which she claimed was covered in “bird poo” and looked as if it had been bought off Gumtree “from someone’s backyard”.

“We had a few little nibbles from the other lounge where everyone got to go for free. There’s some rocks that you could like throw off the balcony, I guess, into the lobby where people were eating their lunch,” she continued.

“Fake flowers, of course, you’ve got to make sure the flowers don’t die and fake flowers don’t die.”

Showing the view outside the balcony, Beth pointed out some “miscellaneous machinery” piled in front of them.

“Bit of dust too,” she added.

“If you squinted, the dust could look like sand on a beach.”

On the railing of the “balcony”, Beth also found a “little hole with some trash in it”.

“That trash, I guess, would have been free, we could have taken that with us if we wanted to but we were worried we might have to pay extra,” she said.

“So yeah, only $55 extra per person for an hour on this balcony. Very good, very cool.”

The TikTok video has been viewed more than 30,000 times and has racked up more than a hundred comments from shocked viewers.

“How did the workers keep a straight face taking you to the balcony,” one person asked.

“Oh that’s so bad,” one said, with another labelling it “embarrassing”.

Another claimed it looked like a DIY, saying it would be a “10/10” at someone’s house but unacceptable at a hotel.

One person questioned how the spa could charge for an area like that, while others were more confused about the “balcony” being inside.

When asked if they at least got a refund, Beth confirmed they did not get any of their money back.
