The loved ones of a hit-and-run victim in outback Queensland have issued an emotional plea for the driver, or anyone else involved, to come forward.

Thirty-year-old Jason Dick, a keen angler and father, was hit and killed around 1am Saturday, November 5 when he was struck by a vehicle travelling along Moore Crescent in Mt Isa.

Mr Dick died at the scene. As the vehicle that struck him fled, its occupants failed to inform emergency services.

Mr Dick’s mother and partner fronted the media on Tuesday in effort to convince anyone involved to come forward.

“It’d be good if we could get someone just to come forward and say what happened, then it’ll be all over … It’d be good if they could come and let us know,” his mother, Maudie Wilde, said.

Wongka Neale, his partner, described Mr Dick as a keen fisherman who loved his mates and family.

“One of his favourite things was just to hang out with his mates, going out to the junction every weekend. He loved his fishing,” she said.

“If you know something, just come forward because we’re not going to find out anything, any answers, if they don’t come forward. I want to just move on. All I want is answers, that’s all.”

Mount Isa City Council Councillor Kim Coghlan echoed the calls for answers, stating Mr Dick was a much-loved, hardworking member of the council staff.

“Jason worked for the council’s parks, and gardens department and his passing had left his entire team missing him,” Cr Coghlan said.

“We’ve got a small group in parks and gardens, and they’re quite close-knit. They’ve had him (Jason) there for a long time. He was a very, very hard worker and an honest employee.

“We lost a good person that you know, we want some answers for, to know what’s happened (to him).”

Mount Isa District Detective Inspector Dave Barron confirmed there were extra resources from Brisbane and Townsville to investigate.

“The impact of this death on the Mount Isa community is significant. “Jason has a daughter and other family members in this community who have been deeply impacted by this incident.

“We appeal to anyone in Mount Isa or other towns who have information or may know something about this incident to contact police or contact crime stoppers and provide that information.”
